Central Coast Multicultural Project
The Central Coast Multicultural project is conducted to assist people on the Central Coast who are from non-English speaking backgrounds. This includes new arrivals, refugees and migrants. For more information about this service, click on History and Achievements of the Project.
The project provides information, referrals, support, advocacy and case work and is funded by Dept. of Community Services and Dept. of Immigration and Multicultural Affairs and is managed by the Wyoming Community Centre. The two workers are Pari Batha and Danielle Habib and they can be contacted Monday to Friday from 8.30am to 4.00 pm.
Mission Statement: The Central Coast Multicultural Project is based at Wyoming Community Centre. The project is an acknowledgement of the diverse cultures living on the Central Coast of NSW and the contributions and benefits derived from the sharing of these cultures within the whole community.
Aims of the Project:
- To research the needs of people from non English speaking backgrounds on the Central Coast and develop programs and activities to meet these needs.
- To work with mainstream organisations and services to increase their sensitivity to the needs of non English speaking background clients on the Central Coast.
- To raise awareness of issues affecting the NESB community on the Central Coast and to advocate on their behalf.
- To provide information and support to NESB people in order to improve their access to existing services.
We have a Multicultural Advisory Committee (M.A.C) which offers advice and support to the project. This committee is made up of people from various cultures. For more information about this committee click here.
A monthly newsletter is produced which provides information about various ethnic groups, other services in the area, relevant events and celebrations and general information. Click here to download a copy of the Newsletter.
There are over thirty ethnic specific groups on the Coast. We have a list of Ethnic Groups so if you would like to find out more about the groups or get in touch with people from your culture please click here.
The project has produced a variety of Multicultural Booklets which provide useful information to new arrivals and general information for migrants and service providers that work with migrants on the Coast. For a list of the publications click here.
